TAIBALE, GIANNI TORRES' NEW DOCUMENTARY WINS AT BANGKOK MOVIE AWARDS

“Taibale, story of a rescued little girl” written and directed by Gianni Torres has won at the Bangkok Movie Awards in the Documentary 2024 section. The Thai festival is one of the most important for independent cinema in all of Southeast Asia. Taibale was presented precisely in Bangkok as an International Premiere.
“Taibale” represents a small novelty in the filmmaking scene, introducing an innovative, hybrid, faithful genre in reality storytelling, defined by a new locution ‘DocumentAI,’ which blends traditional documentary storytelling with the potential of artificial intelligence.
The Documentary Film was produced through an international Italy/Brazil co-production with ALTRE PRODUZIONI (IT) and CASADEFORÇA PRODUÇÕES (BR). The music is by Vincenzo Abbracciante. “Taibale, Story of a Rescued Child” explores the present and future of documentary filmmaking by presenting a unique and profound view of reality. It is an astonishing story, almost relevant today despite the fact that the events date back more than eighty years, and a story never told that spans Belarus, Poland, Lithuania, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, Italy, Brazil and Israel. It is a first-person account of what was a hidden Jewish child, assigned to new people, several times, devastated by the killing of her family by the Nazis, but finally saved by the determination of a 16-year-old girl, her distant relative, among the first partisans in the Lithuanian forests. An innovative visual language to narrate past and current events that come together in the relentless strength of Taibale, an 84-year-old girl of Jewish descent, now recognized as one of the most active philanthropists in São Paulo, Brazil.

AN INNOVATION IN THE DOCUMENTARY GENRE, DOCUMENTAI IS BORN.

“Taibale, story of a rescued child” explores the present and future of documentary filmmaking by presenting a unique and profound vision of reality. A surprising and untold story that spans Belarus, Poland, Lithuania, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, Italy,  Brazil, and Israel. A story of a Jewish child hidden, surrendered several times, devastated by the killing of her family by the Nazis but ultimately saved by the determination of a 16-year-old girl, her distant partisan relative. An innovative visual language to tell the story of past and current events that come together in the relentless strength of TAIBALE, an 84-year-old girl of Jewish descent, now recognized as one of the most active philanthropists in São Paulo, Brazil.

Through the use of advanced artificial intelligence technologies, documentary filmmaking offers a new and engaging perspective capable of capturing the audience's attention and stimulating reflection. The term “DocumentAI” was coined to describe a hybrid approach to documentary creation. Using artificial intelligence, “Taibale” integrates generative elements of animation and voices that enrich the narrative and offer an unprecedented visual experience. A documentary film about events that occurred during the Holocaust and how such devastating experiences were transformed into helping others. AI was employed for in the generation of stock footage using animations and reworkings, not only that, voices of missing protagonists, voiceovers, make “Taibale” not only a very modern documentary, but a journey through the potential of future technology.

With 'Taibale,' we wanted to push the boundaries of traditional documentary filmmaking and explore new modes of storytelling. Artificial intelligence allowed us to create a richer and more layered narrative, offering audiences an experience that goes beyond a simple documentary. We are convinced that 'Taibale' not only sheds light on an incredible story hidden for decades, but also inspires and opens new horizons in the field of filmmaking,” said Gianni Torres.
